About Us

We are a group of parents just trying to do what is best for our children that are on the Autism Spectrum.  Raising children today is difficult but navagating the world of Autism, special education and medical insurance makes our jobs a bit more difficult.  Hopefully, we are able to come together to support one another and network ideas, information and providers.  I'm very excited to share with you that I have been able to secure an evening location for the ASGF.  Please check our Meetings page for more information.

Our HOPE

  • Hopefully, one day the numbers of children affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders will begin to decrease.
  • Hopefully, more children will be found in time for early intervention to make a difference.
  • Hopefully, more children will outgrow there autistic characteristics due to early interventions.
  • Hopefully, parents with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders will not have to endure judgemental looks from others in public, due to increased public awareness.

How We Got Started

The Autism Support Group of Fredericksburg that is currently active was started by co-founders Kim Hill and Kathleen Bufulari in March of 2005.  Kim is the mother of three children, one son with Autism and a daughter with Asperger's Syndrome.  Kathleen is a Speech and Language Pathologist at Mary Washington Hospital.  In the summer of 2006, Kim moved out of the area.  The new parent contact became Nancy Masannat.  Nancy has two children, her son has autism.  In late 2007 Autism Outreach began a support group that met during the day at the disAbilty Resource Center.  In the Spring of 2008 we began a partnership with the disAbility Resource Center.
